Another 400,000 people over the age of 60 have not been vaccinated in Hungary, even though those vaccinated against the coronavirus are much less likely to get sick and their symptoms are much milder, said virologist Miklós Rusvai on the M1 current affairs channel on Sunday morning.
The virologist said that the current data is roughly the same as a year ago, but the number of vaccinated among those in hospital, those on ventilators and those who have died is very low.
The number of infected people will definitely increase - he added - the vaccination will help to ensure that fewer people end up in hospitals, on ventilators, and less people die from the consequences of the coronavirus.
Miklós Rusvai said: according to international trends, we are already at the sixth wave worldwide, of which the third was the strongest, and since then the number of new infections and deaths has shown a decreasing trend. In Hungary, too, the third wave was presumably the strongest, and it is expected that the fourth and subsequent ones will be weaker and weaker. Hopefully, in two years, this virus will also "smooth out" into the trend of classic coronaviruses and cold viruses, he added.
