Pope Francis singled out the meeting with János Áder and Viktor Orbán among the events of his visit to Budapest, who also spoke highly of the community of believers in Hungary - Cardinal Péter Erdő reported to MTI on Saturday night about what was said during his private hearing with the head of the church.
The cardinal said: Pope Francis singled out and called the conversation with the Hungarian state leaders on September 12 "very cordial and positive".
"He spoke with great appreciation about the community of believers in Hungary, which, according to him, was able to survive and make Jesus Christ the center of attention even in the midst of the twists and turns of history," said Péter Erdő.
He added that it was a positive surprise for the Vatican correspondents that they did not find "folkloristic, rural Europe" in Budapest, but "a youthful atmosphere, an urban world of emotions".
