Today is a learning day. Ferenc Gyurcsány was promoted by the communist hard core, the Apró-klan, after the overthrow of Prime Minister Péter Medgyessy, who was functioning as a Stroman. Let's remember: Megdgeyessy could not even go to the toilet without being accompanied by party chairman László Kovács, who represented the old Horn party aristocracy. Evidently, Karácsony is also a straw man, who can be sidelined by a sloppy Indiana Jones at any moment. In vain "snakes snake."

"Exactly seventeen years ago, the ruling party majority elected Ferenc Gyurcsány as the Prime Minister of Hungary," says Irén Rab in today's opinion article in Magyar Hírlap.

Fidesz did not take part in the vote, the MDF members (who still remembers them?) voted no together with the independents, or simply did not press the button. The bar was shaking, it took only four votes to establish the "government of the republic", as Gyurcsány called his cabinet. The opposition did not want to participate in this coup dog comedy.

A ten-hour debate preceded the vote, as the government program had to be approved first. The country is on the rise, that was the name of the program, although the momentum was declining from the beginning, since "we spent a lot, and everyone (desperately) wants more," said the candidate for prime minister. Here, it was not possible to blame Fidesz for spending, corruption and theft, since the country had already had a socialist-liberal government for two years. The dome of the Parliament did not come off when Gyurcsány declared that never has so much income flowed into the wallets of Hungarian people, pensions have never increased by so much, and we have never lived so well. Gyurcsány's ability to talk big - we can also call it a notorious lie - has always had an effect on certain strata, they stare at him with open mouths and believe his magic tricks without reservation even today.

János Áder was the faction leader of Fidesz in 2004. He described the "boost" as the worst government program to date, because this boost meant raising prices, taxes, and unemployment, and was aimed at selling out the country.

The government program included the privatization plan of health care, education, and even the public administration, the transfer of national wealth left after the regime change to foreign capital, which then siphons its gratitude back into the pockets of the seller. Where did the 450 billion revenue from the privatization so far go? What happened to the promised rental housing program? Can the fox be weaned from stealing hens at all? Every elementary school child since István Fekete knows the answer to the latter: of course not, because it's in his blood.

At that time, the parliamentary debate style was still relatively cultured, there was no performance, potato throwing and profanity. Finally, the program was accepted, the historical flags were brought in, and Ferenc Gyurcsány took the oath of office. Two years later, in the Ószöd speech, he himself revealed why the country, which had not been given momentum, stagnated: "I almost died that we had to act as if we were governing for a year and a half. Instead, we lied morning, night, and evening."

A politician, if he is talented and skillful, can gain power, said Gyurcsány in his 2004 exhibition. He was quite clever for being clever. Because this act of September 29, 2004 is certainly due to his "skill". It was not the socialist party that gained the opportunity to continue to reign, but the power for itself.

I don't want to go too far in revealing the facts, only up to the 2002 elections. Thanks to the skills and political networking of the ex-young communist millionaire, the self-made man was already 50th in the list of the 100 richest Hungarians, while his declared real estate assets were a papal panel apartment of only fifty square meters.

It is interesting that this did not bother anyone at the time. How happy the people of Gyurcsány were when, after his election, he renounced his prime minister's benefits, the eighteen million HUF per year! That's right, they clicked it, that's a real politician! Yeah. The populist politician. He knows how to win people over.

In that particular election year of 2002, Ferenc Gyurcsány gave up investment consulting and turned his attention to political consulting. In the campaign, Gyurcsány's wife, Klára Dobrev, was the campaign manager of the prime ministerial candidate of the socialist lists. The party honored his successful work with the post of deputy president of the National Development Plan and the EU Grants Office. Her husband stayed with Medgyessy to check on her and help with her advice.

Did Medgyessy know that she was warming a snake on her bosom?

A year later, the consultant became a member of the cabinet, minister of sports, after ousting his predecessor, György Jánosi from the portfolio.

Ferenc Gyurcsány admittedly did not understand sports, so he caused incalculable damage. Even then, he had no shortage of promises, although we are not yet used to the fact that the exact opposite of what he promises is happening. The Gyurcsánys reduced the number of physical education classes at school to two per week, and the sports clubs were forced to double their membership fees due to lack of support, making it almost impossible for the children to play sports.

The Bozsik program was liquidated, the support of the National Athletic Program was minimized, the training of youth was placed on market funds (!), and the costs of the facilities development program (meaning stadiums, sports halls) were transferred to the already indebted municipalities. The sports law also bore the mark of this run amok, it was full of contradictions. The results of the following years showed the damage caused.

The fact that he resigned from his post two weeks before the Olympics shows Gyurcsány's moral sense and commitment to his profession. Let's not believe for a minute that, faced with his dilettantish nature, he simply wanted to get ahead of the planned government reshuffle, which would have meant his incompetence and his replacement. He could not wait for his person to cause a crisis in the government, so he recklessly, but perhaps pre-calculated with background deals, went ahead of the events and for him.

Medgyessy's attempt to reorganize the government failed. He made a statement that the corruption cases of the Free Democrats were unacceptable, and he wanted to oust István Csillag, the economic minister delegated by them, who knew many secrets. This was too much for the SZDSZ, and they overthrew the prime minister. Medgyessy resigned, and his party nominated Péter Kiss as his successor. The next day, Gyurcsány decided to run for the prime minister's seat. Would one night have been enough to make a decision? Or was it something that had been played a long time ago?

Who remembers these events in detail? I also happened to come across a stack of newspapers from 2004 when I was digging around. At that time, the printed press was still in vogue, there was no social network for the rapid distribution and manipulation of news. We followed the unfollowable events on TV.

Today, I believe that when Medgyessy was nominated, the party already knew that it was only advancing rapidly on the list.

Because he looked like a gentleman, had a restrained style, a good tailor and nice ties. In short, he made a good impression. The comrades also knew for sure that Péter Medgyessy was a SZT, i.e. top secret, officer of the communist secret service, he was the D-209 agent in III/II. case department. Not among the III/III blackmailed recruits, he was a full-time secret agent of the system. They knew that because of this, he could be held in check, blackmailed, and do what was expected of him. He didn't do it once and it cost him his position. Everything about the chosen successor, Gyurcsány, was and still is.

Knowing about the 2004 coup is important because of next year's elections. Does Gergely Karácsony know that he, too, is just the bastion pushed forward, the tested, electable tall, thin politician whose weaknesses and blackmailable points are well known by his comrades?

And who will the Gyurcsány network put out of the way for Antal Apró's grandson, as it should be?
