The prime minister-designate revealed the conditions under which he would step back in favor of Karácsony.

As Mandiner previously reported, it was decided on Friday that one of Péter Márki-Zay and Gergely Karácsony who made it to the second round of the primary election will step down against Klára Dobrev. It has not yet been decided which of them will step down in favor of the other, the mayor of Hódmezővásárhely and the mayor of Budapest are expected to sit down at the negotiating table on Monday.

On Thursday evening, Márki-Zay was a guest of Spirit FM's Aktuál program, where he already talked about the conditions under which he would step back in favor of Gergely Karácsony . These are the following:

  1.   Introduction of the euro.
  2.   The promise of tougher and more decisive accountability.
  3.  Dismantling the Basic Law with even a half majority.

During the discussions so far, they agreed with Kárácson on the introduction of the euro, and there was also a consensus between them on tougher and more decisive accountability. According to Márki-Zay, the most important question is how they will be able to restore the real rule of law, because if someone accepts the Fidesz basic law that Péter Polt remains the chief prosecutor for nine years, then he accepts that Hungary will never be a rule of law. If they cannot find a solution to this, then there will be no regime change and there is no point in changing the government - he explained - because then Fidesz will come right back, according to him, in two years.

There was complete agreement on the question of constitutionalism in previous prime ministerial candidate debates.
