The government provides HUF 9 billion to support the 2022-2023 Petőfi Memorial Year. Of this, 3 billion goes to the bicentenary programs, to the support of rural museums, and to the development of literary memorial houses and memorial sites.

"The 200th anniversary of the birth of Sándor Petőfi, the poet prince, is a good opportunity, in addition to the tribute, to rethink the events and consequences of his time," said Miklós Kásler, Minister of Human Resources, at today's press conference in Budapest.

In connection with the bicentenary, Miklós Kásler shed light on the background of the events that led to the 19th century reform era. He noted that Petőfi was not only a great poet, but also appeared among the radicals on the political spectrum. "The laws of 1848 proved to be durable, and conditions developed that could ensure Hungary's prosperity," said the minister.

Balázs Bús, vice-president of the National Cultural Fund, emphasized that the NKA will strive to ensure that the applications for the two new temporary colleges to be established in 2022 are connected to the commemorative year. He also called community building the most important task in the tenders in the situation caused by the pandemic. The obvious tool for this is culture, which is why it is important for the state to support its actors.

Demeter Szilárd, the general director of the Petőfi Literary Museum, spoke about the renovation of the PIM's permanent Petőfi exhibition, the opening of the courtyard of the Károlyi Palace with the Károlyi Garden, and an interactive Petőfi bus will tour the Carpathian Basin with a traveling exhibition, as well as public education and museum education programs are being prepared. He said that at the bicentenary, they will be able to show the value of the public collections of hundreds of Hungarian museums in the Carpathian Basin, and it will also be possible to renovate the literary memorial houses and memorial sites primarily associated with the reform era.
