The exceptionally beautiful building in Bánffyhunyad was renovated, which was made possible with European Union funds, donations from locals, and the support of the Hungarian government and the Transylvanian Reformed Church District.

The technical handover took place on Thursday, September 30. In 2017, the parish won an EU tender worth two million euros for the renovation of the imposing church in Bánffyhunyad. One of the conditions of the project, they write, was that the locals should contribute two percent of the tendered amount, and the community managed to donate more than expected.

They emphasized: the structure of the building remained in relatively good condition, but

the walls were replastered inside and out, and the 14th-century frescoes found on the north side were restored.

The windows of the sanctuary were restored to their original size, stained glass was installed, the roof was re-shingled, and beams and rafters were replaced where necessary. The renovation of the pews and the tower clock, the electrification of the bells, and the arrangement of the churchyard were covered by Hungarian state funding.

The restored cassettes of the church deserve a special mention, they add: the Umling cassettes in the sanctuary were made in 1881, the works of János Felvinczi in the nave are from 1705, and the cassettes on the bust of the gallery are from the 1680s, the works of János Gyalui Asztalos. In addition, the work of a fourth painter was discovered during the current restorations: the colorful motifs on the pulpit crown and the pulpit gallery date from 1748. However, the work continues: the organ will be renovated starting in October, and archaeologists have found the entrance to another crypt in the sacristy, which is waiting to be excavated, reformatus.ro reports.
