Slovakia is in trouble. On the one hand, they are bound by EU rules, and on the other hand, they really don't like "foreigners" buying real estate and land in their state.
As we learned from the article we also published on velvidek.ma , our northern neighbor complains that Hungarian citizens and institutions are buying land in Slovak territory . Finance Minister Igor Matovic also evaluated the situation, explaining that the dispute should be handled diplomatically.
The opinion of the former prime minister was also published by felvidek.ma:
"Slovak diplomacy should do its job, and handle the Slovak-Hungarian dispute diplomatically," said Finance Minister and former Prime Minister Igor Matovič
He added that he previously spoke Viktor Orbán and Péter Szijjártó about the Hungarian government's investments in southern Slovakia. He asked them to jointly manage the subsidies for Slovakia's regions.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should be primarily diplomatic. This dispute must be resolved through diplomacy. If you need help, I will be happy to help," said Matovič, adding that he has been able to agree on everything with Orbán and Szijjártó.
"They have various programs affecting southern Slovakia, within the framework of which they support the renovation of kindergartens and primary schools, the construction or reconstruction of stadiums. The last program also includes the purchase of historical buildings and possibly agricultural land," detailed the finance minister, adding that state interests must be protected. At the same time, he pointed out that Slovaks can also buy land abroad.
According to Matovič, it is also a problem that in the past the Slovak government did not really care about investments affecting southern Slovakia. "Let's not ignore it, let's help southern Slovakia, and I think Viktor Orbán will also join, and this will make the help even more intense," he emphasized.
He called the extraordinary meeting put into perspective by Smer-SD unnecessary.
Juraj Šeliga , the vice president of Za ľudí, noted that helping small farmers is part of the government program. Related to this is the regulation of how much land foreign investors can buy in Slovakia. He believes that attention should be paid to this in the case of Hungary as well. On the sidelines of the Slovak-Hungarian debate, he noted that as long as the state border is respected, the relationship between the two countries will be good.
Ivan Korčok (SaS candidate) recently met with his Hungarian counterpart, Péter Szijjártó. At the meeting, the question of the purchase of farmland and certain properties in Kassa by the Hungarian government arose. Korčok asked the Hungarian side to precede government programs that also affect Slovakia by mutual consultation and agreement. He envisioned an amendment to the law that would regulate the purchase of real estate by foreign states. SaS declared on Thursday (October 7) that Korčok enjoys the full confidence of the party.
