On Wednesday afternoon, the management council of the Maros County Education Inspectorate was supposed to decide that starting from the 2023-2024 school year, the school network in Marosvásárhely should be modified so that Bolyai Farkas High School and II. Ferenc Rákóczi Roman Catholic High School. However, the decision was postponed.

At last week's council meeting of the Marosvásárhely municipality, the division of the current Bolyai Farkas High School and II. The incorporation of Ferenc Rákóczi Roman Catholic High School into the Marosvásárhely school network from the 2023-2024 school year. In the next step, the issue was brought before the board of the education inspectorate, from where they should have sent the decision to the Ministry of Education by supporting or rejecting the municipality's proposal. In case of rejection, reasons must be given as to why there is no need for a Hungarian denominational school in Marosvásárhely. However, the education inspectorate did not decide on this, rather they postponed the issue - despite the fact that August 31 was the deadline for sending the proposals for amending the school network to the Inspectorate for the Control of the Quality of Education (ARACIP).

Illés Ildikó Maros County Deputy Superintendent told Székelyhon: he voted against the postponement at the board meeting on Wednesday afternoon and put it in the minutes. I didn't want us to miss the deadline at the end of August, so I voted against the postponement. I also told the others that this is just a suggestion, not a decision yet. However, the majority found the municipality's decision to be illegal, and before the board meeting, a transcript was sent to the ministry and asked to comment on the issue. However, the ministry did not respond, which is why they decided to postpone it, explained the deputy inspector general.

Zoltán Kallós, the state secretary for education of the RMDSZ, highlighted to Székelyhon that the Marosvásárhely municipality requested that the re-establishment of the Catholic school be started based on the requests of the church and parents. "As a first step, the municipality must indicate its intention to modify the school network by August 31. As far as I know, the local government did this and sent the decision to ARACIP and the school inspectorate. From then on, I don't really understand what the school inspectorate is talking about, because for now they have no authority to decide anything. For the time being, the municipality has indicated its intention to modify the school network for the 2023-24 school year, and a decision on this will be made sometime during the month of December, according to the methodology. The school network for the following academic year is always determined then. And at that moment, if the municipality's proposal does not receive the approval of the school inspectorate, then in such situations the ministry will really decide whether the school network will be changed or not," said the state secretary.
