The president of the Parliament in Budapest called ensuring the right to national self-identity as the raison d'être of every European nation and every European state.
László Kövér, in his opening speech at the plenary session of the Forum of Hungarian Representatives of the Carpathian Basin (KMKF), spoke about the new challenge that private powers pose to states as public authorities.
He said that, according to statistical data, as a result of global capital concentration, the aggregate capital power of the world's ten strongest private companies is greater than that of the world's 180 sovereign states.
In 2017, the list of the world's 100 largest revenue-generating entities included 71 multinational companies, i.e. private power groups that cross state borders, and only 29 states, he detailed. He added: thirty years ago, states were still in the majority on this list.
The President of the National Assembly spoke about the demographic explosion or decline, global warming, illegal migration, and international terrorism as challenges that are getting worse, but from the last century. László Kövér said that the stake of the struggle between states and multinational companies worldwide is to retain or acquire the right to dispose of the financial, economic, natural and human resources of countries around the world.
According to the Speaker, the attempt to weaken and eliminate national identity has become one of the offensive weapons of private powers in their fight to create a new global world order.
László Kövér stated: securing, international codification and enforcement of the right to national identity can give national states an effective self-defense weapon against private powers. According to him, if national self-identity diminishes, then the most important state-creating and state-sustaining factor in Europe organized on the national principle, the nation, will cease to exist. He put it this way: every European state may lose the community that sustains it, may lose its historical right to exist, may be forced to give way to private powers and dissolve into "the formation of private powers bearing the codename of the United States of Europe".
