A prominent member of the Hungarian Law Society has passed away. András Gálszécsy was born into a wealthy family in Szekszárd in 1933. His father served as a police officer, so he and his family were relocated to a farm in Hortobágy in the 1950s.

Thanks to his talent, perseverance and, not surprisingly, his successful handball performance, he was able to graduate and from 1981 became the Deputy Chief Economic Director of the Semmelweis University of Medicine, where he became involved in the process of system change. Between 1990 and 1992, he was a minister without portfolio overseeing civilian secret services, and between 1995 and 2001, he was the executive director of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank. During his governmental activities, he served his country tirelessly as the chief advisor to the Minister of the Interior and then to the Prime Minister. In one of his statements, he said: "All my life I have tried to be a decent official. I have no inclination towards politics. I never applied for a single job, I was invited everywhere."

András Gálszécsy never blamed the grievances of his youth on anyone, and throughout his life and outstanding career, he was characterized by honesty, cooperation and keeping the good of the country in mind. In 2018, he was awarded the middle cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit.
