From November 1, the system of direct access to victims will continue to expand. The Government is committed to the wider enforcement of victims' rights, promoting victim assistance and its effective implementation is a priority goal. - the Ministry of Justice issued a statement to MTI

So far, serious steps have been taken to reach the widest possible range of victims, but at the same time, the expansion of the opt-out system based on direct access to victims is justified. (The essence of this is that not only can the victim contact the authorities, but the authorities will contact him directly. -ed.) From January 1, 2021, the Criminal Code. the direct access model was available to victims of intentional, violent crimes against persons.

As of November 1, the scope of crimes will be expanded by means of an amendment to the law: police information will no longer be required only in the case of violent crimes against the person, but also in the case of sexual abuse, fencing, exploitation of child prostitution, harassment, robbery, and theft of minor value and misdemeanor value. (up to a value limit of HUF 500,000) is also implemented.

In order to contact as many victims as possible on the part of the victim assistance service, and so that as many victims as possible can receive victim assistance support, as a result of the amendment, the victim no longer has to consent to the transfer of their data, but must declare their actual prohibition or opposition to the transfer of data. In this way, the system continues to legally ensure that the data of the victim, if he does not specifically want it, is not transferred to the victim assistance service, and that the service cannot contact him.

As a result of the new regulations, the number of contacts made by the victim support service will increase, so it is expected that more victims will be able to receive support.
