The Ministry of Agriculture is coordinating with other players in the fertilizer market in order to fully ensure supply and is investigating how it is possible to keep fertilizer at home, the ministry said after László Bige hinted that Hungarian producers could only buy from him for one day this year.
The owner of Nitrogénművek Zrt. essentially terminated cooperation with actors in domestic agriculture and openly threatened Hungarian farmers - the Ministry of Agriculture responded to Agrokép's inquiry.
László Bige, the owner of Nitrogénművek, said last week that, according to his calculations, the price of fertilizer will rise to a record level, which he seems to want to make the most of. According to him, the fertilizer market has completely turned upside down, currently it can only be purchased at a record high price, the main reason being that the price of the most important raw material, natural gas, is also setting records. Bige told Portfolio.hu that they plan to serve Hungarian customers only for one day this year, but from then until May all goods will be shipped abroad. The entrepreneur added: the entire amount currently produced by Nitrogénművek would be bought by Asian customers even now, regardless of the fact that all types of fertilizer have become significantly more expensive.
The Ministry of Agriculture's firm position is that all possible means must be deployed in the interest of farmers, and the security of the domestic fertilizer supply must be ensured, the ministry said in response to Agrokép's inquiry. As they said, they are negotiating with other players in the fertilizer market in order to fully ensure the supply and are investigating several possible intervention options to see how it is possible to keep the fertilizer at home.
