The minister drew attention to the fact that the sugar and confectionery industry in the city of Szerencs has a centuries-old history. Some of the classic products are still available today, such as the Szerencsi Retro bar, Cat's Tongue, Animal ABC and Castle chocolates, as well as the special hand-made cognac cherry. These products are now associated with Szerencsi Bonbon Kft., which, since its foundation in 1996, has been working to save the local confectionery industry, which requires great expertise, dedication and experience, and at the same time nurture and enhance the city's reputation, he added.
István Nagy reminded: in December 2018, it was announced that Nestlé would transfer the use of the Szerencsi trademark to Szerencsi Bonbon Kft. In this way, recognizing the service that the company performs in order to preserve the tradition of the production of sweets in Szerencs. The minister announced that a new decision has now been made, as the international company will hand over the ownership of the use of the Szerencsi trademark and the "red bow cat" graphic trademark associated with the brand to the town of Szerencs, and the town can provide the use of it free of charge to Szerencsi Bonbon Kft.
He explained: the family business currently employs 150 people at three sites, but with the use of the Szerencsi chocolate trademark and the business results of the added value, it can even create additional jobs.
István Nagy also spoke about the fact that there are approximately 11,000 product trademarks in the Hungarian food industry, in addition to more than forty quality certification trademarks. These have a special role, since the brand name, the logo, the use of colors all serve the purpose of making the given products unique and easily distinguishable - and guaranteeing quality.
