The details of the draft law on vaccination protection against Covid-19, which is being finalized in Austria, have been leaked. According to information obtained by Die Presse daily, Austrians and permanent foreign residents who repeatedly resist the vaccination obligation, which will come into effect from February, can expect severe penalties.

After the first missed vaccination appointment, the affected person will receive a total of two more official reminders and new appointments to receive the vaccine. The grace period will be four weeks after the last notice.

If the recalcitrant citizen or foreigner still ignores the official summons, he will be fined 3,600 euros or four weeks in prison.

The amount of the fine can be increased to 7,200 euros in the case of those who have not complied with the notice at least twice. However, according to the current paragraphs of the bill, no one will be forcibly dragged to the vaccination site and vaccinated against their will. Only seriously ill or pregnant women and children under the age of twelve can be exempted from compulsory vaccination for health reasons. According to the draft, the booster vaccination will also be a requirement.

In the meantime, it also came to light that the new German chancellor also wants mandatory vaccination.

Olaf Scholz

Future chancellor Olaf Scholz stated in a video conversation with the leaders of the 16 member states and his predecessor, Angela Merkel, that he would support making vaccination mandatory, Bloomberg wrote, citing a well-informed source. Reuters was also informed in the same way.

According to Reuters, Scholz's intention is for the mandatory vaccination rule to enter into force in Germany by the end of February , but it is not clear from the report whether the vaccine should be administered by then or starting from then. The provinces governed by conservatives, which have entered the opposition, also want stricter rules for the unvaccinated, but according to social democratic sources, no specific decisions are expected at today's meeting, the news agency wrote.
