The Swedish home furnishing store blew up on Twitter when it posted a photo of a female figure resembling Angela Merkel perched on a comfortable IKEA armchair. Brilliant advertising trick!

The post, full of subtle humor, appeared on the company's profile in Germany. IKEA probably alluding to the fact that after Angela Merkel retired after 16 years as chancellor, she will finally have time to sit at home in a comfortable armchair. They also showed what this looks like in practice - illustrated, of course, with their own product, a classic armchair. Needless to say, the post was shared by many people, including Carl Bildt, the former Prime Minister of Sweden.

An armchair in which the pensioner can sit comfortably

In the advertising photo of the interior design company, a woman who looks like Merkel is sitting in a comfortable, gray armchair . Add the text: Finally home! IKEA's now iconic STRANDON armchair, available at an extremely affordable price (HUF 54,999), is of course also available in Hungary.

The seating is available in six colors (beige, gray, poison green, dark blue, yellow, and black and white checkered). Angela Merkel got the gray one , but perhaps the explanation of a not exactly ordinary expression can be a guideline. We happen to be referring to the term gray eminence, which according to the WikiDictionary:

“There is this idea that the world is run by gray eminences. In the term gray eminence, the gray refers to the fact that it is not obvious to the public that the person has power."

Angela Merkel is alert even when resting

The inventors of the witty post even had trouble making sure that Angela Merkel's double held her hands exactly as the outgoing chancellor did while sitting in the armchair Of course, there are also a few twists in the wording. This sentence was put into Angela Merkel's mouth:

"Could you give me my theater binoculars, so I can see if this Olaf is hardworking enough?".

With all of this, they could have aimed at the former chancellor's fondness for opera, as well as his social democratic successor, Olaf Scholz.
