In an unusual way, you can get to know interesting things about music history on Bartók Rádio. The Bartók competition was inspired by the 140th anniversary of Béla Bartók's birth, which was realized with the students of the Hungarian Radio Children's Choir. Through the competition and exciting productions of the young people, the life and work of the outstanding Hungarian composer, pianist and folk music researcher will be revealed. Bartók Rádió will broadcast the contest in two installments, on Golden Sunday and December 26.

The Kodály School in Marczibányi tér hosted an extremely special and unique competition.

Almost a hundred members of the Hungarian Radio Children's Choir tested their skills in the Bartók competition, where the main role was not at all dry facts. The young people have been preparing for the rehearsals for weeks, with the help of their coach Walter Judit. They had to present the life of the great composer with tasks suitable for their age group.

In addition to helping each other to collect points with the quiz questions, they also had a number of exciting productions in store for the jury and the audience. Different, important stages of Bartók's life were brought to life in scenes. These revealed how he could fit in with his contemporaries as a withdrawn child, how he met Zoltán Kodály through his wife Emma Sándor, what his relationship with Igor Stravinsky was like and how he wrote his last piano concerto for his wife, which was inspired by the sounds of birds.

The questions were divided into four categories, related to the author's childhood, folk music collection, the composer's work as a pianist, and his years in America. The teenagers showed amazing knowledge and imagination, they added an incredible amount of information to the tasks. Szilvia Becze, the host of the contest, was given their own opinion on each question, or guessed how the author could have made the defining and important decisions of his life. The young contestants were impressed by Bartók's talent, sense of language and rhythmic pieces, which clearly confirmed that the love of classical music is ageless.

Anyone who wants to experience the excitement of the competition and learn interesting details about the life of the brilliant composer should watch the program Kezdőhang on Golden Sunday and December 26 from 11 a.m. on Bartók Rádio.
