Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba confirmed their mutual intention to improve bilateral relations during their telephone conversation on Monday. Péter Szijjártó wrote on his social media page: the task will not be easy, but they are confident that 2022 will be a better year in terms of Hungarian-Ukrainian relations than this year.

The Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade wrote in his post that in recent years they have worked very hard to ensure Hungary's energy supply and to increase Hungary's role in Central European security of supply.

We now have gas pipeline connections with six of our seven neighbors, and the number of electricity connections will soon continue to increase, he added.

Péter Szijjártó noted: Hungary has become an increasingly important transit country in terms of natural gas transport, "last year and again this year, most of the gas was transported to Ukraine from the western direction through us".

As he wrote, based on the technical agreement of the system operating companies, the gas transport from Hungary to Ukraine will be able to continue at maximum capacity in the first three months of 2022.

This gives the market companies a commercial opportunity to deliver a total of 700 million cubic meters of gas between January and March, he wrote.

The politician added: he and Dmitro Kuleba confirmed their mutual intention to improve bilateral relations, "which will not be an easy task, but we are confident that 2022 will be a better year for Hungarian-Ukrainian relations than this year."
