The Turul statue in Hajdújárás was created in 1943, but the inauguration did not take place after the Russian and Serbian armies entered. Decades later, the local parish priest found the work. After a long time, the turul occupied the place where it was originally intended. Anyone can view it in the courtyard of the Hajdújárás church.
The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Hajdújárás was built in 1936. A few years later, in 1943, Antal Csajkás , the vicar at the time, they wanted to erect a statue of a turul in the garden of the church. However, the inauguration did not take place, because history intervened. The work was buried by the vicar together with the elements belonging to it, the coat of arms and the flag. A few decades later, the parish priest at the time, Tibor Drenkovics plowed in the church garden. While working, he came across the hidden sculpture complex. In the end, László Bóni found the work, who preserved it and then willingly gave it back to the village. After the restoration, the turul bird was restored to its rightful place.
The turul means a lot to the locals , says Endre Horváth , the current parish priest of Hajdújárás.
The turul, the legendary bird of Hungarian origin tales, is usually depicted with spread wings. The wing of the Hajdújárás bird is at rest. According to Rudolf Sövény, this means we have returned home.
