On January 18, we celebrate the heavenly birthday of Saint Margaret of Árpád-házi. It has become a tradition that the archbishops of Esztergom present a sacrifice of the Holy Mass for our country at the ruins of the Margaret Island monastery, where he lived as a monk. Cardinal Péter Erdő will celebrate the solemn mass on Sunday, January 16 this year at 11 a.m. Everyone is cordially invited to this important church and social event!
Carrying in our hearts the experience of the International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest, on the feast of St. Margaret of Árpád-háza, we may remember the words of the papal legate Eugenio Pacelli, which he said on May 25, 1938 in the field of Heroes. In his speech, the later pope presented Blessed Margit of Árpád-házi to the participants as follows:
"Here is Blessed Margit, the second offspring of the tribes of Hungary, the smiling helpmate and sister of holy poverty, the self-denying violet in humility, this privileged, crystal-clear Eucharistic soul, the eternal candle burning before the Holy Altar, whose lovely flame still burns today."
History has confirmed that the candlestick of St. Margaret's life was fed by the power of grace emanating from the Blessed Sacrament, which is why the flame of her candlestick did not go out.
