In a statement on Tuesday, Fidesz confirmed the information previously published in Magyar Nemzet that Lívia Járóka could be a government politician in the leadership of the European Parliament.
As written,
Lívia Járóka is running for the position of Vice-President of the European Parliament as the only Hungarian candidate with the support of far more than the required number of MEPs.
"I am convinced that a solution to the difficulties of the recent past can be found through cooperation and the involvement of the most vulnerable. I consider it an important task to strengthen the European democratic right-wing," emphasized Lívia Járóka, Fidesz's European Parliament vice-presidential candidate, according to the announcement. He added: the past two and a half years have shown that there is a greater need for high-level representation of disadvantaged European citizens and Hungarian national interests than at any time in previous decades. "For the past five years, as the vice-president of the European Parliament, I have kept in mind the representation of the ten million European Roma and Hungarian interests at the highest level every day, and I ask for the European Parliament's trust in this for the next two and a half years," said the vice-presidential candidate. "I will always stand up for the enforcement of Hungarian interests, the strengthening of the European democratic right and a strong Europe of strong nation states. I am asking for the support of my fellow representatives in this," he emphasized.
The Fidesz European Parliament delegation also reminded that: as the first Roma vice-president of the European Parliament, Lívia Járóka took an active role in raising Roma representation to the EU level from 2017, in embracing memory policy, Roma cultural heritage and talent development.
During his vice-presidency, the Roma flag was displayed on the European Parliament building for the first time, and on his initiative, the victims of the Roma Holocaust were commemorated for the first time in 2020.
Lívia Járóka retained her former vice-presidential responsibilities in the first half of the parliamentary term starting in 2019: vice-president responsible for the management of the European Parliament's control body and vice-president responsible for access to documents since her election in 2017.
