In the context of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, we cannot ignore the Hungarian-Ukrainian relations either, since due to the Ukrainian laws that violate the minority and language rights of Transcarpathian Hungarians, Hungary is blocking Ukraine's approach to the Euro-Atlantic - emphasized the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade in an interview with the Hungarian Nation, which was PestiSrácok watched.
Péter Szijjártó told the paper that whatever gesture we have made so far, we have practically received no positive confirmation in return.
Let me give you an example: the Ukrainians requested a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at the end of last year. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy told him all the good things about Hungary, painted a very positive picture of the future of bilateral relations, and then, with a little exaggeration, immediately after the phone conversation, he submitted a bill in the Ukrainian parliament, which states that dual citizens cannot hold public office - Péter Szijjártó recalled what happened .
This means that he wants to almost completely exclude the Hungarians from participating in public life among those belonging to the national communities - pointed out the minister, who also said that the Ukrainians asked us for help to deliver gas to Ukraine through Hungary.
We said yes to this, in the first three months of the year it became possible to transport seven hundred million cubic meters of gas through Hungary to Ukraine, which is one of the most significant imports from the west. Compared to this, there is no progress in matters concerning the Hungarian national community - explained the politician, who illustrated Ukraine's ingratitude with a series of examples.
When necessary, we brought ventilators, added chlorine for water purification, vacationed Ukrainian children on the shores of Lake Venice, treated wounded Ukrainian soldiers in our hospitals, and delivered gas. Compared to this, the Transcarpathian Hungarians only had rights deprivation, provocation and in many cases physical intimidation. This is unacceptable - said the foreign minister.
In the context of the security situation in Eastern Europe, I honestly told the European Union and NATO colleagues: if the Ukrainians do not withdraw from this policy, it will severely limit the Hungarian government's ability to provide Ukraine with any kind of support, even in this also in the conflict - stated Péter Szijjártó.
We've tried everything. I offered to classify the Hungarian community as one of the indigenous minorities, thereby nullifying all deprivations of rights. They weren't willing to do that either. However, 150,000 Hungarians have not moved to Transcarpathia in the last ten years. If someone is native, they are. So we cannot get to the recognition of basic historical facts, which is a big problem, he listed.
