Miklós Horthy streets overwhelmed Budapest.
Several streets in Budapest were "renamed" Miklós Horthy Street. The initiative was a response to the mayor's Facebook post, in which Karácsony wrote that "Budapest does not ask for hatred", because, as he put it, "On the occasion of the upcoming anniversary of the death of Miklós Horthy, extreme right-wing organizations and pseudo-opposition parties organized a demonstration of force combined with a march in our capital, instilling fear in the population in part".
According to one of the participants in the "street renamings", Ábel Bódi, head of the Identitás Genéráció, "the mayor's statement about Miklós Horthy, which ignores all historical facts, fits well into the history falsification of the left." In his opinion, the mayor
instead of city management, he started identity politics and began to categorize and rename the capital's public spaces according to gender".
therefore, as he wrote in his post, "we are fighting for every name on the street sign to be dignified based on its merits and not primarily on the basis of its gender".
