Prime Minister Gergely Gulyás and Minister of Justice Judit Varga responded to the latest ruling of the European Court of , according to which it complies with EU law if funds are withdrawn from countries accused of violating the principles of the rule of law.
The Court of the European Union made a political decision regarding the Hungarian child protection law - emphasized Judit Varga, who does not consider the decision a surprise, because there is an incredible attack on Hungary regarding the law, and they also received a separate letter from Brussels on the matter. He recalled that the same situation arose in connection with the migration debate four years ago, and in the end the Hungarian solution won.
Regarding the latest government decisions, Gergely Gulyás continued by saying that the state exercises its right to designate a service provider in an area, no one will be left without a gas station in the immediate vicinity. In response to a journalist's question, he noted that compensation for gas stations was not raised because they do not want to support the gas stations with taxpayers' money.
The government is not aware of the fact that several wells within 5 kilometers have been closed due to the price cap, but if necessary they can designate wells in place of those closed, for example Mol could take over the operation, the Ministry of Innovation and Technology asked the company to do so on Wednesday.
The minister highlighted that, according to the decree, refueling can be done without restrictions, compliance with the rules is checked by the National Tax and Customs Administration, only in the case of gasoline or diesel filled in cans, there is a maximum amount of 10 liters.
Regarding the Child Protection Act, he noted that the government chose the most democratic solution available, the referendum. In legal sense, the participation of at least half of the voters is necessary for validity, but in political sense, the decision of 3-4 million people could not be ignored either. Gergely Gulyás stood by his opinion: there is a connection between the Child Protection Act and the decision of the European Court of Justice, which is the only reason why we have not yet received the money due to us.
I would warn everyone against overestimating today's court decision - said Gergely Gulyás. He added: it is not money from Brussels, but the resources of the member states that go to Hungary, and he does not consider it a realistic scenario that we will not receive the money. He pointed out that the European Commission has legitimate criticism in one case, that of single-bidder public procurements, and in this regard the government has already indicated that it will significantly reduce their number.
Regarding the teachers' strike, the minister said that the government still wants to negotiate with the teachers, they are planning a salary increase of at least 30 percent, but he asks them to comply with the legislation.
Gergely Gulyás firmly stated that as long as there is a civilian government in Hungary, they will not send Hungarian soldiers to Ukraine.
In the event of a possible Russian-Ukrainian war, the government would count on Hungarian refugees for the most part, they can take care of tens of thousands of people in this case, there are many scenarios available, but they do not want to alarm the population with the exact details, because they hope that there will be no war.
Regarding the family tax refund, Gergely Gulyás noted that nearly 2 million people are entitled to it, and 1.4 million received the amount they were entitled to. For the others, the money will arrive in May. He added that the sja refund will not have an inflationary effect. The minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office believes that inflation will soon return to the tolerable range of 2-4 percent - according to him, the fact that the latest figure remained below 10 percent is also due to the price cap - and then he praised the outstanding economic growth of 7.1 percent, which is one of the best indicators in the European Union.
