According to the announcement, Hungary's population has been decreasing continuously for decades, and this trend was even more true for small settlements. In order to counterbalance this process, the village tax was introduced in June 2019, with the help of which state support can be used for the purchase, expansion and modernization of used real estate in preferred small settlements, until June 30, 2022, according to the current legislation. In January of this year, another 200 settlements were added to the list originally containing 2,486 place names.
Based on the permanent population database of the Ministry of the Interior, it was determined that between January 1, 2017 and January 1, 2019, there was a national increase of 49,400 people (0.49 percent), and in the two-year period between the first days of 2019 and 2021, by 55,400 ( permanent population decreased by 0.55 percent).
On the other hand, in the investigation of the 2,678 settlements affected by village csok, it was found that between 2017 and 2019, the permanent population decreased by 25,600 (0.93 percent), and between 2019 and 2021, it was only 10,200 (0.37 percent), i.e. the population decline the trend in these settlements has apparently slowed down, both compared to the previous period and compared to the national average of the same period.
At the same time, the extent and direction of processes that could be observed between 2019 and 2021 differ from county to county and settlement.
As an example, they mentioned that in 1,121 villages affected by Csok, the population increased by an average of 18 people, while in 74 cases the population remained unchanged.
It was reported that from 2019 to 2021, among the counties of Győr-Moson-Sopron, Pest, Komárom-Esztergom and Fejér, the settlements affected by village csok recorded the largest increase in population. There are only two counties: Békés and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, where the previous population decline has increased in the last two years.
The announcement quoted Dávid Valkó, the leading analyst of OTP Ingatlanpont, who said that they cannot declare in two years' time that the demographic processes of small settlements have permanently reversed, however, the villagers have started a process with a positive sign, and this is due to the changing home selection preferences in connection with the coronavirus epidemic. strengthened even further. In addition to the change in the population of Hungarian settlements, real estate market statistics also reveal the rise of small settlements, as they were much less affected by the stagnation of the market, said the expert.
