The leadership of the Association of Hungarian Jewish Religious Communities (Mazsihisz) was deeply shocked to learn that on February 19, 2022, the Mi Hazánk Mozgalom, known for its extreme views, will hold an election event in the Zalaegerszeg synagogue.

The synagogue building is a place of special importance for the Jewish community and the city. It commemorates the once flourishing Jewish community of Zalaegerszeg, whose members were dragged to death camps in 1944.  movement, whose members openly incite minorities in their public speeches and internet posts, is holding an event in a place  important to Hungarian Jews . Such an event is unworthy of the history of the place and dishonors the memory of our martyrs.

For Mazsihisz, the protection of the Jewish religion, culture and community is of utmost importance, so it is our duty to speak out against any attempt that seriously violates our values. We still do not wish to express ourselves in party political matters, but the planned synagogue event of Mi  Hazánk is a provocation that we must take action against!

We call on the building's maintainer, the Zalaegerszeg County Municipality, to withdraw its previous decision and not to allow Mi Hazánk Mozgalom to hold an election event in the building that once served as a synagogue.
