Zoltán Tatár, the clerk of Hódmezővásárhely, resigned from his position with effect from Tuesday, the office of the mayor of Hódmezővásárhely will now be held by deputy clerk Éva Karsai, the city's mayor's office announced on its social media page.
The announcement indicates that the mayor Péter Márki-Zay (MMM-Tiszta Vásárhelyért Egyesület) accepted the clerk's resignation. They also quote the mayor, who says that Zoltán Tatár made this decision because "he was put under pressure in connection with the selection of the members of the election committee" .
According to the statement of the Hódmezővásárhely organization of Fidesz, however, with the resignation of secretary Zoltán Tatár, the head of the parliamentary individual constituency election office, it was "clearly proven" that Péter Márki-Zay and his political community wanted to influence and manipulate the composition and work of the body responsible for conducting the local election.
In accordance with the law, Zoltán Tatár made a proposal to the General Assembly for the members of the parliamentary individual election committee, then he modified his original proposal at the last minute, and instead of a well-respected teacher, he proposed the daughter of the lawyer Péter Márki-Zay, who is running as a candidate in the election, as a member, wrote the local organization of Fidesz.
At the session of the general assembly, Katalin Gyutay, the representative of the Everyone's Hungary Movement and the chairman of the procedure and mandate review committee of the Vásárhely municipality, stated that the new member is the candidate of the opposition coalition, they added.
"Obviously, Zoltán Tatár modified his original proposal due to political pressure from Péter Márki-Zay, who was running as a candidate, and submitted his resignation as a result of the scandal that broke out. So while Péter Márki-Zay is worried about the purity of the elections nationally, he wanted to influence the course of the individual constituency elections," says the announcement of the Hódmezővásárhely organization of Fidesz.
