Russia has sent military units to the territory of the two separatist provinces in eastern Ukraine, the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, the Russian news portal wrote. A few hours earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, and he had already informed French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz about the move.
Immediately after the recognition of the two separatist territories, Putin ordered that Russian soldiers enter "the two former provinces of eastern Ukraine for peacekeeping purposes.
In addition, the Russian president ordered that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially establish diplomatic relations with the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics.
"A critical, acute situation has developed in the Donets basin," the Russian president explained in his video message to the country, presented on Monday evening. According to MTI, he argued that today's Ukraine was created by Lenin and the Bolsheviks, annexing ancient Russian territories in the east. He pointed out that today's Ukraine thanked him by toppling statues of Lenin, in the spirit of de-communism. As he said, if the Ukraine created by the Bolsheviks wants real de-communism, Russia can arrange it.
Kiev's threat that Ukraine will create its own nuclear weapons is not an empty boast, he warned at the same time. He pointed out that Ukraine has knowledge of Soviet nuclear and missile technology, so it can acquire tactical nuclear weapons sooner than other countries.
