We jointly condemned Russia's war actions against Ukraine and decided to introduce uniform sanctions, Viktor Orbán said in his statement published on Facebook early Friday, after the EU summit in Brussels. "I made it clear that we will stand up for Hungary's national interests and we will not allow anyone to drag Hungary into this war," said the Prime Minister.
The Hungarian Prime Minister said: they agreed at the summit that war cannot be a solution to any conflict situation.
He emphasized that the uniform sanctions do not affect the field of energy, therefore, as he said, the energy supply of Hungary and the other member states of the Union is ensured despite the sanctions.
Viktor Orbán , they decided that more money should be spent on the security of the countries neighboring Ukraine, including Hungary, "and we should spend more money on the protection of the eastern border".
The Prime Minister stated that they agreed at the summit: responsible behavior is necessary, hasty and irresponsible statements only worsen the situation and endanger the safety of European people.
He announced that the negotiations will continue in NATO.
The heads of state and government of the member states of the European Union agreed on a new package of sanctions against Russia at their extraordinary summit that lasted from Thursday evening to Friday night, which will affect the country's financial sector, the energy and transport sectors, dual-use products, as well as export control and export financing. it covers the visa policy and the sanctioning of additional Russian persons.
At their summit, the leaders of the member states of the European Union adopted a statement, in which they stated that new sanctions are in sight against Russia and Belarus, condemning Minsk's role in the Russian attack.
