Hungary has never spoken out against any proposal for sanctions, has not blocked and is not blocking anything - the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced on Facebook on Saturday regarding the sanctions against Russia.
Péter Szijjártó emphasized that Hungary wants peace.
"That's why we're working, that's why I'm negotiating with representatives of the Russian and Ukrainian governments to start direct talks in Budapest"
- stated the head of the ministry, adding that he will ask for the help of the UN leaders in New York on Saturday as well.
Péter Szijjártó underlined,
"I see with regret and shock that some representatives of international politics and the international press are unable to produce fake news and lie".
"I can't imagine how it can be that while there is a war, people are dying, some people are running fake news factories"
he announced.
He highlighted
"now they are lying that Hungary is blocking some of the sanctions against Russia, for example in relation to the SWIFT system".
"Let's be clear: THIS IS NOT TRUE! We have never spoken out against any proposal for sanctions, we have not blocked and we will not block anything"
Péter Szijjártó stated.
The minister called on the "distributors of fake news" to "be of any nationality, be ashamed of themselves!!!".
Zoltán Kovács, the state secretary responsible for international communications and relations, also called fake news in his Twitter post on Saturday, according to which Hungary remains the only EU member state that opposes the exclusion of Russia from the SWIFT system.
He emphasized that Hungary stands 100 percent in favor of joint EU efforts.
"We will not do less than what the EU position requires"
- said Zoltán Kovács, adding that it is not up to Hungary to do more.
