The 35 people who were evacuated from Ukraine as part of an evacuation operation organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade are now safe, Minister Péter Szijjártó said in his Facebook video on Saturday evening. The head of the ministry held talks with the head of the UN in New York - which 2022 plus has already mentioned - after which he reported in a video about his negotiations and the success of the evacuation operation.
Péter Szijjártó reminded that many Hungarian diplomats, their family members and civilians stayed in Kiev in difficult conditions. On Friday, the decision was made to launch an international evacuation convoy organized by the KKM under Hungarian leadership.
The minister was already able to report on Saturday that the evacuation of 35 people was successfully carried out, and that the convoy arrived safely at the Consulate General in Ungvár.
According to him, 24 of the 35 persons are embassy workers, diplomats and their family members, including children, two are MTVA journalists, and two are civilian Hungarian citizens. The convoy also brought seven employees of the OSCE and Council of Europe offices in Kyiv, as the international staffs asked Hungary for help with the evacuation.
According to Péter Szijjártó's information, the convoy from Ungvár will be escorted by the Ukrainian police to the Hungarian border, where the embassy, the Ukrainian border guard and the Hungarian police will help them to enter the territory of Hungary. From the border, they use KKM vehicles to get to Budapest and to the required location. The minister pointed out that the evacuated persons can now be considered safe, and at the same time stated that it was a good decision to organize the evacuation convoy.
He added:
Another large international organization in Kiev has already turned to Hungary so that its employees can receive help and find safety at the Hungarian embassy. We provide an opportunity for this, we offer help to both Hungarians and non-Hungarians - stated Péter Szijjártó.
