As a consequence of the Ukrainian-Russian war, the reconsideration of gas trade with Russia was on the agenda. In the latest research of the Nézőpont Institute, it sought the answer to whether Hungarians think it is right or wrong that Hungary continues to buy Russian gas. Based on the results, the majority of politically active Hungarians consider trade with Russia beneficial in this area.
Four fifths of active voters (79 percent) think it is right to buy gas from Russia, and only one in ten voters think it is wrong. If we analyze the breakdown according to political sympathy, it turns out that even among left-wing voters, seven out of ten (68 percent) support the maintenance of energy trade with Russia, despite the war, and only 15 percent disapprove. Among the voters of the governing parties, nine out of ten (88 percent) support the import of Russian gas, and only one in twenty (5 percent) opposes it.
