The Hungarian State Opera House opens with a five-day festival. On Saturday, with a gala concert, and on the following two days with the original version of Erkel Hunyadi's opera László and MacMillan's ballet Mayerling, the Opera will celebrate the curtain rising again in the renovated Ybl Palace on Andrássy Street after almost five years. From March 15, the general public can get to know the renovated building on visitor tours. As a lead-up to the events, the song theater will hold student premieres tomorrow and Saturday.

As it is written, the program of the Opening Gala will feature works appropriate to the occasion, including Dohnányi's seldom-heard Festive Overture written for a monumental performance apparatus, excerpts from Háry Kodály's János, as well as excerpts from Seregi's ballet A makrancos Kata. In addition to works by Hungarian authors, pieces with a Hungarian theme will also be performed, Plácido Domingo . Organized by artistic director András Almási-Tóth, the evening will feature opera singers Gabriella Balga, Erika Gál, Mihály Kálmándy, Csaba Sándor, Csaba Szegedi and László Szvétek, ballet dancers Tatiana Melnik and Kekalo Iurii, the Orchestra, Choir and Children's Choir of the Hungarian State Opera, and the Hungarian Students of the National Ballet Institute. The festive program Ádám Medveczky, first conductor Gergely Kesselyák and Balázs Kocsár .

The performance will be broadcast live by the M5 public service channel.

The next day, on March 13, after more than ninety years, the Opera presents László Hunyadi's original version on stage again. The main roles of the performance are Szabolcs Brickner (László Hunyadi), Klára Kolonits (Erzsébet Szilágyi), Dániel Pataky (László V.), Erika Miklósa (Mária Gara), Gábor Bretz (Palatán Gara), András Palerdi (Cillei Ulrik), Gabriella Balga ( Mátyás Hunyadi) and Attila Erdős (Rozgonyi). The artists of the Hungarian National Ballet and the students of the Hungarian National Ballet Institute, as well as the Orchestra, Choir and Children's Choir of the Hungarian State Opera, conducted by chief music director Balázs Kocsár, will participate.

After the premiere, the Opera House will perform the play on March 15, 17, 23 and 27.

The play is accompanied by period visuals worthy of the original version, the costume and set designs of which are written by Krisztina Lisztopád. At the same time, the production also uses projections using the tools of the modern age, as well as exploiting the possibilities offered by the brand new stage technology.

After the opera premiere, on March 14, the Hungarian National Ballet will take over the stage of the Opera House with a new staging of the neoclassical costume ballet Mayerling. Sir Kenneth MacMillan's work deals with the love affair between the Habsburg heir to the throne Rudolf and his lover, Baroness Mária Vetsera, which ended in a double tragedy. The main roles are played by Dmitry Timofeev and Ármin Balázsi Gergő (Rudolf), as well as Tatiana Melnik, Aliya Tanykapeva and Lili Felméry (Mária), the Opera Orchestra is conducted by Ádám Medveczky. After the premiere, the performance will be performed at the Opera House on March 19, 24, 26, 27, 30 and April 2.

The announcement reveals that after the premieres, on March 15, guided tours inside the Opera House will also resume, so that even those who do not wish to exchange tickets for the performances can admire the renovated opera house.

On the national holiday, one-hour guided tours in Hungarian and English will start at 10:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The series starts tomorrow with László Hunyadi's performance, followed by the student premiere of Mayerling on Saturday.
