"There is room for meaningful action in Székelyföld, and if a community wants to live, it organizes itself and takes action." Izsák Balázs, the president of the Székely National Council (SZNT), spoke about this next to the Turul statue in Sepsiszentgyörgy on Thursday, at an event held on the occasion of the Székely Freedom Day.

The community leader emphasized: the people of Székely have a vision for their future.

That is why he launched the European citizens' initiative of the national regions, why he proposed the introduction of the Székely identity card, which lays the foundation for self-organization, and

paves the way for the Székely national consultation and internal elections.

"If we establish the regional self-governance of Székelyföld, we will be closer to autonomy, to the fact that the Romanian parliament will also endow this body with public authority based on the autonomy statute of Székelyföld," declared Izsák Balázs.

Referring to the war in Ukraine, he emphasized: Székelyland's territorial autonomy can only be realized under conditions of peace and security.

"Only conditions of peace and security can dispel the spirit of suspicion in such a clean and democratic matter as the matter of the future of Székelyföld," he said.

At the event held in the snow, the Prime Minister's Acting Katalin Szili's speech was read out. The politician believed that the Székely Freedom Day is, on the one hand, the day of those who suffer from the oppression of the government, and on the other hand, it is a celebration of the fact that Székely can achieve even seemingly hopeless goals. He called the numbers 1112 and 1,269,532 the two new symbols of the Székely region. The former is the number of days spent in prison by István Beke and Zoltán Szőcs, who were convicted of terrorism, and the latter is the number of verified signatures collected on the European citizens' initiative of the national regions.

Katalin Szili called on those present to help the Transcarpathian Hungarians suffering from the war.

He believed that, in the present circumstances, the predictable future and the protection of citizens are the most important.

"I am confident that predictable national politics and security will win again on April 3," the prime minister's representative said in his message to the Hungarian parliamentary elections.

The event was attended by Attila Dabis, SZNT's foreign affairs representative living in Hungary, who was able to return to Romania after a three-year ban.
