The effects of the Russian-Ukrainian war and the economic sanctions can already be felt throughout Europe. In the European Union, a sharp debate has unfolded regarding future punitive measures against Russia. The already implemented sanctions also have serious economic consequences within the borders of the EU, including in Hungary. - announced the Government Information Center.

Some would also include the energy sector in the scope of the sanctions. This would cause disproportionately large damages to our country. 64 percent of Hungarian crude oil imports come from Russia. 85 percent of Hungarian gas consumption is Russian imports. The importance of this is clearly demonstrated by the fact that 85 percent of Hungarian households use gas.

There are those who would extend the sanctions to the Paks nuclear power plant and its expansion. They also need to know that if we have to get the electricity produced by the Paks nuclear power plant from somewhere else, then

the utility costs of families would increase by HUF 264,000 per year. This is four times the current level. In addition to all this, the floating of sanctions makes the HUF a target for financial speculation.

The Hungarian government will oppose the extension of sanctions to the energy sector as firmly as possible in international forums. This is in the interest of the Hungarian economy and the Hungarian people.

We condemn Russia's military intervention. We support EU and NATO efforts to create peace. However, we will not let Hungarian families pay the price of the war! says the announcement.
