Non-perishable food will be collected in Catholic churches for a week starting next Sunday; the circular of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference (MKPK) on this matter will be read at Masses throughout the country on Sunday - the MKPK informed MTI on Friday.
In its circular, the MKPK wrote: this year, the old church tradition of practicing mercy during Lent will be announced again, encouraging the faithful to take their non-perishable food offering to the needy at Mass. Donations can be placed by the faithful between March 20 and 27 in the designated place in the churches.
This year, Catholic Charity will use the food donations to help refugees from Ukraine and Hungarians in Transcarpathia.
They went on to say that as a result of their collections announced in previous years, they were able to help thousands of families from the donations of the faithful. If everyone brings a donation of at least 1 kilogram to the church this year, we will be able to help many refugees and Transcarpathian families once again, following the example of the merciful Jesus.
In addition, you can support the work of Katolikus Karitász with HUF 500 per call to the phone number 1356, they added.
