"Yesterday, our country's largest national flag was hoisted on the renewed Citadel, where the 72-square-meter flag on the 36-meter mast will be visible even at night. From now on, the red-white-green flag commemorates the heroes who gave their lives for Hungarian freedom every day," the Communication Office of the Castle Administration wrote in a statement.

During the renovation of the fortress, the specialists cleaned the building complex and also assessed the condition of the walls and floors. A leakage system following the entire inner line of the fortress walls has also been completed, which will help preserve the condition of the walls in the future. With the reconstruction of the fortress, the goal is to allow the Hungarian people to take possession of the once-dreaded Citadel, emphasized the Castle Administration. During the work, the nearly ten thousand square meter outer walls of the fort will be restored and the inner courtyard will be put in order. A new public park of more than 6,000 square meters will be created inside the fortress wall, which will include a fountain, a lake, rich flora and a panoramic cafe. The western cannon tower will be filled with cultural content: a spectacular exhibition showing the freedom struggles of the Hungarian people will be created on more than 1,700 square meters, they said.
