Now is not the time for someone to stumble into Hungarian public life as an enthusiastic amateur and try himself as prime minister - political scientist Tamás Lánczi evaluated the statements of the left-wing prime minister's candidate regarding Hungary's military role in Ukraine in Kossuth radio's Sunday newspaper program.

The analyst also spoke about the fact that the Peace March is a brand and concept not only in Hungary, but also internationally. At the celebratory event in Kossuth Square on March 15, the Prime Minister gave a very serious analysis of the events taking place in the world, and selected Hungary's place, while the opposition held a traditional campaign event, he recalled. The most striking difference was in the number of participants at the March 15 events. The government was able to mobilize more people, this is now a tradition, for twenty years we have seen that "there are many, many more people" at the right-wing movements, stated Tamás Lánczi. He pointed out: based on the speeches

the prime minister gave a very serious analysis of the events taking place in the world, the geopolitical realignments, and also assigned Hungary's place.

He emphasized: Hungary's place is outside of the major conflicts that have started in Ukraine and which several prominent politicians in Europe have said are actually just the beginning of a long conflict. The analyst underlined: Hungary must stay out of the series of conflicts that are believed to have started. In contrast, the opposition's event was a traditional campaign event. In his twenty-minute speech, the prime minister candidate of the opposition sharply attacked the government and the prime minister, but no concept really emerged - explained Tamás Lánczi, who did not see in it an offer to the opposition voters, what kind of country they want to build.

Regarding the fact that DK mayor Péter Niedermüller called the Peace March and the Prime Minister's speech at the end distasteful, as well as the belittling and mocking behavior of the opposition, he said: they are envious, in the last 20 years they have been unable to organize a mass event that shows real strength and unity. Smaller ones, yes, but not as large as the Peace March, he pointed out. According to Tamás Lánczi, the Peace Procession is not only a brand and concept in Hungary, but also internationally. Such a series of events, which has been regularly held by a community for ten years and hundreds of thousands of people show up, is hard to say, he added. This is a Hungarian political innovation - he assessed.

The political scientist also touched on the fact that the Peace March has a very important community-creating and legitimizing power, especially in such difficult times, when the country is under external pressure and in the middle of a major conflict zone.

Regarding the fact that one day Péter Márki-Zay talks about sending weapons to Ukraine, and then the next day denies it all, he said: he was quite clear about Hungary's military role, he does not understand why he wants to take this to court. Tamás Lánczi saw it as extremely embarrassing and only kicked an own goal with it. These sentences were said, and these statements are "not appreciated" by the Hungarian people. The vast majority of Hungarians reject any kind of military involvement of Hungary, he added. Benevolently approaching the candidate's activities, now is not the time for someone to stumble into Hungarian public life as an enthusiastic amateur and try himself as prime minister, the analyst concluded.
