In the Russian-Ukrainian war, Hungary is on the side of Hungary. He helps those in trouble, but he wants to assert and protect his own national interests, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated in his statement to the public media after the EU and NATO summit in Brussels.

The prime minister emphasized: Hungary must stand up for its own national interests again and again at every international meeting.

"That's why it doesn't matter what kind of government Hungary has. Do you have a government that stands up for national interests or one that wants to swim in a subordinate role with the big ones or with other countries that radiate authority for it, "he said.

The Prime Minister evaluated the current situation as follows: there are countries that say that this is a war in which they are somehow also a part. The Hungarians, on the other hand, say that there is a Russian-Ukrainian war going on in our neighborhood, that we cannot be indifferent, since there is human suffering and millions of people in trouble. In addition to all this, there are Hungarian interests that can always be jeopardized by a war taking place next door.

According to the prime minister, it became clear at the NATO summit that there are many people behind the Hungarian position, which is why NATO has said: it is not part of this war, it does not want to participate in it, it wants to stay out of it and it will not send weapons or soldiers. nor does he order an airlock. He added: if there are member states that want to go beyond this and do something on their own responsibility, NATO will not prevent it.

He called it an understandable suggestion in connection with the negotiations of the EU summit regarding economic sanctions: if they want to help the Ukrainians and want peace as soon as possible, then it is necessary to make it clear to the Russians that this war is not worth continuing. He considers this a right aspiration, because he also believes that the most important thing today is to have peace. "We are on the side of peace," he declared, adding at the same time: peace cannot be created by applying sanctions that "hurt us more than the Russians."
