According to President Zelenskiy's statements, there is only one acceptable attitude of support for Ukraine: only the friend who immediately sends money, money, and weapons to the Ukrainians, as well as terminates all relations with the Russian aggressor, even if his people are dying for it. They also expect immediate action from those Hungarians who have been laughed in the face for years, when they asked for the restoration of the taken rights of the Transcarpathian Hungarians through countless forums. Viktor Orbán tried yesterday for the sake of peace to persuade Russian President Putin to a truce and to bring the warring parties to the negotiation table in Budapest, according to the Ukrainians, this was nothing more than mere media hype. But they went even further: according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Hungary is helping Russian President Vladimir Putin to continue his aggression against Ukraine.
The Ukrainians do not ask for the Hungarian proposal
There are official channels for negotiations aimed at ending the war launched by Russia against Ukraine, Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Ukrainian presidential office and member of the Ukrainian delegation negotiating with Moscow, said on Wednesday.
The Ukrainska Pravda news portal asked the official about what Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said at his press conference on Wednesday:
spoke on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin, to whom he suggested that he sit down in Budapest to negotiate with the Ukrainian and French presidents, as well as the German Chancellor, in order to reach a ceasefire agreement.
He told the Russian president that Hungary is in a special situation geopolitically, we have experienced many times how destructive they can be, the extent of which is worse the longer they last. "I suggested to President Putin to declare a ceasefire immediately". According to Viktor Orbán, Putin gave a favorable response to the proposal, but there are conditions for the Ukrainians, which must be negotiated during the negotiations.
"There are official channels. There is a (Ukrainian and Russian) negotiation group, whose subgroups are in constant contact with each other. There is also a key international consultation format at the level of political advisers, in which Andriy Jermak (Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine) represents our side. Any real proposal will only go through these channels. Everything else is just media hype”
Podoljak said.
Strong Ukrainian criticism from Kiev: Hungary is helping Putin
"Hungary is helping Russian President Vladimir Putin to continue his aggression against Ukraine," read the statement of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, published by Oleg Nikolenko, the ministry's spokesman.
The election campaign of the Hungarian ruling party was based on intimidation of Hungarians with the threat that the Russian war would extend to the territory of Hungary
Nikolenko emphasized.
The Hungarian leadership does not want to acknowledge Russia's undeniable responsibility for the atrocities committed in Buca, Irpiny, Hostomel and other settlements, which means that they are consciously strengthening the feeling of impunity in Russia and encouraging them to commit new atrocities against Ukrainians
- reads the statement .
He added: the statements of the Hungarian leadership that they are ready to pay in rubles for Russian gas belong to this category. According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, paying for the gas in rubles is part of Russia's plan to save the Russian economy from international sanctions. "The Russian military machine needs resources to continue the war against Ukraine," Nikolenko said, according to whom, if the European Union countries pay for the gas in rubles after that, they will get it.
In this context, we consider the statement regarding the payment of Russian gas in rubles as an unfriendly position towards our country. Such declarations also contradict the clear position of the European Union, which is not willing to satisfy Russia's whims
said the spokesperson. He noted that Ukrainians and Hungarians are connected by centuries-old historical, political, economic and cultural ties, and there are about 150,000 Ukrainian Hungarians living in Ukraine.
At the same time, both peoples are harmed by the logic that currently guides the politicians in Budapest
the diplomat added.
"In light of this, the proposals to hold peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in Budapest seem cynical," they added. According to them, if Hungary really wants to help end the war, it can do so as follows:
-
stop destroying unity in the European Union,
-
support new anti-Russian sanctions,
-
provide military assistance to Ukraine,
-
and do not create additional resources for the Russian war machine.
