Keeping in touch is important for young people, which makes it easier for them to live everyday and their trials. This is also true for the young people of Beregsás, who are now in a much more difficult situation than average due to the war raging in the country. Youth pastor János Margitics from Beregsász shared his thoughts with us. The pastor considers it a matter of his heart to keep the youth groups together.
There are great traditions in the community, how the young people are shepherded - emphasized János Margitics, the youth pastor of Beregszasz. This mission has always played a big role in the city: it adapted to the historical situations that characterized the life of the countryside. In addition to the youth groups, several others were started, so it has become a tradition that two pastors serve among the students in the college church as well.
This mission is a defining field of service, and they had to find unique, specific solutions in every period. Evangelism among young people can take a lot of searching to get from attracting attention to being addressed. In order for the latter to be created, the youth pastor must understand and learn the world of the given age group, so that he can convey God's message with a relevant address.
During the Covid epidemic, they were able to learn to maintain contact in the online space, and now, in the wartime, it is even more important to keep this in mind. In the first weeks, they assessed where the young people were and in what form they could join the online events. Of course, meeting in this way does not completely replace personal contact, but in the current situation it adds a lot to spiritual replenishment.
By bridging the difficulties, they color the togetherness with pedagogical methods on the occasions, so that the atmosphere is lifted, they get closer to each other, so that their thoughts focus on one place and the comforting word of God reaches them more easily. During his joint mission with his wife, the pastor finds that young people, for whom community is not a distant concept, need these opportunities. And this gives additional motivation for the two pastors.
Young people do not want to create situations in their own lives in which the issue of war would arise - emphasized János Margitics. They feel that they are still in the process of processing what happened, that it affects their lives. And even if they occasionally rebel, like the older generation, there are also important factors for them: permanence, security, stability.
Regarding the future: planning is difficult, but they are doing their best to maintain contact. Good hope must be preached, because a person living under God's protection experiences many things differently in this world than others.
