The representatives who won mandates from the national list in the April 3 parliamentary election, as well as the nationalities advocates, received their credentials at the Parliament on Wednesday.

Before handing over the credentials in the dome of the Parliament, András Téglási, the president of the National Election Commission (NVB), highlighted that the NVB determined the election results much earlier than the legal deadline, on April 14, and this became legally binding two days later, following the decision of the Curia.

Attila Nagy, the President of the National Electoral Office (NVI), highlighted in his greeting that although we are living in "intense times" due to the coronavirus pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war, the election and the referendum held at the same time went smoothly throughout the country, the data and was smoothly processed by the competent bodies.

András Téglási and Attila Nagy were the first to hand over the credentials to Viktor Orbán, who heads the Fidesz-KDNP joint list.

According to the official final results of the parliamentary election, which came into effect last Saturday, the Fidesz-KDNP party alliance has 48, the six-party alliance (formed by the Democratic Coalition, Jobbik, LMP, Momentum, MSZP and Párbeszéd) has 38, while Mi Hazánk Mozgalom has 6 obtained a list mandate.

Among those on the list of the Fidesz-KDNP faction alliance, Gál Kinga (Fidesz) did not take over his mandate, János Halász (Fidesz) and Nacsa Lőrinc (KDNP) will take over their credentials later.

Péter Márki-Zay (Párbeszéd), Klára Dobrev (DK), Gergely Karácsony (Párbeszéd), Péter Jakab (Jobbik), Ferenc Gyurcsány (DK) and eight other Jobbik politicians did not take up their mandate from the list of the opposition coalition on Wednesday: Z. Dániel Kárpát, Brenner Koloman, György László Lukács, Zoltán Sas, Ferenc Varga, János Bencze, Péter Balassa, Hajnalka Szabó.

Ágnes Vadai, Erzsébet Gy. Németh, László Sebián-Petrovszki, Zoltán Varga, Zsolt Gréczi, Olga Kálmán, Ferenc Dávid, László Kordás, Zoltán Komáromi (all DK) indicated that they would receive their credentials later.

Mi Hazánk list leader László Toroczkai did not receive his mandate at the ceremony either.

As a result of the April election, Imre Ritter was entitled to a preferential mandate on behalf of the National Self-Government of Hungarian Germans, and he - like the 11 nationalities advocates - received his credentials at the ceremony.

In the April parliamentary election, voters with permanent residence in Hungary could vote for the candidate of their individual constituencies, as well as for party lists (or ethnic voters for ethnic lists). Those without Hungarian residence could vote for party lists by mail.

When determining the mandates that can be issued from the national list, the votes cast for the national lists and the so-called fractional votes that are not used in the individual constituencies were taken into account. A fractional vote was a vote that was cast in the individual electoral district for a candidate who ultimately did not win a mandate in the individual electoral district; moreover, this also included all votes of the winning candidate that are no longer necessary for obtaining the mandate, i.e. the number of votes remaining after subtracting the votes of the candidate with the second most votes plus one.
