Zsolt Láng, the leader of the Fidesz-KDNP faction in Budapest, entered the Parliament from the party's list, speaking to Magyar Hírlap on the occasion of this, he evaluated the performance of the governing parties in the capital and also talked about his further plans.
- How surprised were you at the result of the parliamentary election in Budapest, since the joint Fidesz-KDNP list has never received so many votes.
- First of all, I would like to thank everyone who went to Budapest and cast their vote, especially those who supported the Fidesz-KDNP candidates. I consider the April election result in the capital to be a huge step forward for the civil and national side. Although we were only able to win an individual mandate against the opposition in one constituency, we achieved an almost four percent better result compared to 2018, while our opponents received ten percent fewer votes. The gap between the votes cast for Fidesz and the left narrowed significantly, from twenty to seven percent in four years.
- Do you think the result is a result of the government's city-building performance - including the development of the City Park, the Várkert Bazaar, the renovation of the Opera House, the creation of the Eiffel Workshop, the construction of the Puskás Arena - or is it a consequence of the failed activities of the left-wing city leadership?
- The development that has been visible in Budapest since 2010 is wonderful. The government is constantly developing and building the nation's capital, conceptually, taking into account both the needs of city residents and visiting tourists. I think the current election also proved that more than forty percent of Budapest voters see and value this. And the opposition, hoping for success from the fusion of the extreme right and the extreme left, has been able to show nothing else in recent years than that it hates the government and those who vote for it.
They do this in Budapest as well, even though they have been in the management role here for two and a half years. Unfortunately, there is a lack of ideas, elaborated visions, and real performance. For Karácsony, only complaints and daily scolding of the government are their political product. I believe that this will make their popularity even lower, nobody likes failed leaders. It is in the interest of all of us that the mayor changes his previous practices as a city manager, comes back from the party political battlefield, and starts working for the present and future of Budapest in consultation with the government.
