Countless threats were made by the left during the election campaign, which are incompatible with the rule of law and democracy. One hair-raising idea was to repeal the two-thirds laws with a half-majority if they won.
Ferenc Gyurcsány's wife, Klára Dobrev, leader of the DK list, then Prime Minister candidate Péter Márki-Zay, DK parliamentary representative Gergely Arató and the dialogic Tímea Szabó also supported the proposal. Several experts have warned that it is not possible to amend the Basic Law with a simple majority. András Zs. Varga, the president of the Kúria, called the idea a "constitutional coup", which had not seen a domestic political crisis for decades, and in the last case could have caused a civil war. The left-wing politicians wanted to create a constitution with a half majority, they wanted to change the two-thirds laws, but now that they have suffered a historic defeat, they are swearing by the Basic Law, which they would have "thrown in the trash". It seems that left-wing politicians still only care about power, position, immunity and representative salaries instead of self-examination.
In addition to communication, a clear radicalization process was observed in the Hungarian left's understanding of constitutionality and democracy. While at a meeting on January 23, 2013, representatives of the DK, the Együtt 2014 Voter Movement, the MSZP, the Social Democratic Party of Hungary, the Free People for Hungary - Liberal Party and the Alliance, Together for Hungary Party agreed that both the constitutional and protection of fundamental rights, as well as the widest possible social, political and professional consultation is necessary in the field of justice, until then legal sociologist Zoltán Fleck, head of Péter Márki-Zay's public law staff, said in an interview on November 29 last year that in the event of a possible opposition victory, the new constitution with Fidesz they would not consult, in fact they would form with a half majority - reads the analysis of the Századvég Foundation.
The plan for a constitution with a half-majority became part of the left-wing politicians' program after four well-known left-wing lawyers (Péter Bárándy, Zoltán Fleck, László Lengyel and Imre Vörös) last May declared Democracy and constitutionalism under the rule of law! wrote an article in Népssava entitled According to the lawyers, on the first session of the new Parliament
practically, with a simple majority and taking over the powers of the Constitutional Court, it should have been declared that the Basic Law is null and void.
It didn't take long for Ferenc Gyurcsány's wife, Klára Dobrev, leader of the DK list, to feel the above thought as her own.
Mrs. Gyurcsány and other prime ministerial candidates campaigned as if it was only a matter of political courage to override the two-thirds laws with a simple majority.
The wife of her boss was followed by Gergely Arató, who said it should be clear that Klára Dobrev's hand will not tremble when this Basic Law has to be thrown in the trash. In his speech, the DK representative stated that
the Basic Law is "not worth a penny".
