The Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed the government's position in a Facebook post: until there is a proposal acceptable to our country to counterbalance our energy dependence, Hungary will not accept the new EU sanctions package.

"Today I spoke again on the phone Shahid Abdullah , the President of the UN General Assembly, with whom we often discuss the war in Ukraine. Today, I also asked him to continue using all the authority of the UN in order to establish a ceasefire and peace, since for us Hungarians the earliest possible peace is our interest.
We also talked about the latest Brussels sanctions package. Shahid knows very well that we have voted for all the sanctions packages so far, but this latest one would destroy the security of Hungarian energy supply, which has been on firm feet until now. As long as there is no solution to the problem caused by the Brussels proposal, we will not vote for this package."
