The Hungarian Defense Forces bid farewell to its Commander-in-Chief, President János Áder, in a solemn military ceremony on Monday evening.

The outgoing President of the Republic was received with a salute at the Sándor Palace by the honor unit of the Hungarian Defense Forces.

Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, the commander of the Hungarian Defense Forces, thanked János Áder for his work and then presented the head of state with a triangular flag with the emblem of the Hungarian Defense Forces as a gift.

The celebration held at Szent György Square in Budavar ended with a parade. Among others, Anita Herczegh, the wife of the head of state, took part in the event; István Kun Szabó, chief aide to the President of the Republic, and Tibor Benkő, Minister of National Defense.

The second mandate of President János Áder as head of state expires on May 10, 2022. According to the Basic Law, you cannot be re-elected a second time.

On March 10, the Parliament elected Katalin Novák, former minister without portfolio responsible for families, as president of the republic.

Katalin Novák took office on Tuesday, she is the sixth president of the republic after the regime change.

According to the Basic Law, the President of the Republic expresses the unity of the nation, watches over the democratic operation of the state organization, and is the Commander-in-Chief of the Hungarian Defense Forces. The head of state is elected by the Parliament for five years and may be re-elected no more than once.
