Among others, Ursula von der Leyen and Patriarch Kirill also congratulated Viktor Orbán.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated Viktor Orbán on his re-election as Prime Minister on Twitter. The EU is facing unprecedented challenges, said the president of the EU body, adding: he looks forward to joint work in order to manage them successfully together.
The leader of the Russian Orthodox Church, Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and Russia, sent a letter to Viktor Orbán congratulating him on his re-election as Prime Minister.
"You are one of the few European politicians who, in the course of their work, make remarkable efforts to maintain Christian values and to strengthen the norms of public morality and the institution of the traditional family," the head of the church wrote to Viktor Orbán in a letter also made public on his website.
He added that he is aware that the Hungarian Prime Minister is an active defender of persecuted Christians in the Middle East and African countries. In his letter, Patriarch Kirill also praises the fact that Hungary and the Russian Orthodox Church have established good relations with each other in recent years. He highly appreciated that Viktor Orbán monitors the needs of the Hungarian Orthodox Diocese, and with the cooperation of Hungary, Orthodox churches are successfully built and renovated, including the Hungarian Orthodox Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is "one of the architectural jewels of Budapest".
