The public opinion research company Ipsos commissioned the Sky News news television to conduct a representative survey on the living problems of the citizens of the United Kingdom. As a result of the survey, shocking things were revealed. For example, a quarter of Britons are forced to skip a meal a day due to rising food prices, three out of five Britons have been forced to turn off their heating due to high gas prices. More than a quarter of people in the UK have canceled their subscription to cable TV or streaming services (HBO, Netflix) and more than half of people have cut their spending on entertainment.
Based on the representative survey
one in four people in the UK are forced to skip one meal a day due to increasingly high food prices.
The survey also showed that the rising costs of living are mostly felt by people with lower incomes by British standards.
More than half of those earning less than £20,000 a year were “very worried” about the cost of living in the next six months.
According to the poll, almost one in five Britons have had to take out a loan to cover their daily living costs. Most of these people took out loans to pay utility bills.
In the United Kingdom, the Russian-Ukrainian war has caused the price of petrol and diesel to rise to historic highs. In addition, experts expect 10 percent inflation in Great Britain this year.
Two out of five Britons surveyed said that as a result of price increases, they shop in larger supermarkets instead of smaller stores. The price of several basic foods, such as butter and chicken, increased by 10 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to the survey, the vast majority of people expect the cost of living to continue to rise.
The representative and weighted survey was conducted by the Ipsos polling company on behalf of Sky News. A total of 2,061 people aged 16 to 75 living in the UK were interviewed.
