Solidarity between EU member states is not a one-way street, and the community has so far been in solidarity with Hungary to the fullest extent, said Frans Timmermans, the vice president of the European Commission, on Thursday at the Europaforum event of the German regional public service media company Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) regarding Russia's war against Ukraine.
The Dutch social democratic politician emphasized that the EU can expect solidarity from Hungary in the case of Russian aggression against Ukraine, because it is not just a war, but "European values".
As he said, Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to "introduce autocracy in Europe as a basic, guiding principle, as a norm, he is trying to undermine our values and our way of life", and he is trying to "not let democracy be the basis in Europe".
"We cannot allow this, we must confront this," underlined the vice-president of the Brussels committee.
IN CONNECTION WITH THE EU FINALLY NOT PLACING THE RUSSIAN PATRIARCH KIRILL ON THE LIST OF PEOPLE SUBJECT TO PENALTIES FOR THE ATTACK AGAINST UKRAINE, HE EXPLAINED THAT HE CAN NO LONGER RECOGNIZE WITH UNDERSTANDING THE ACTIVITIES OF THE HUNGARIAN GOVERNMENT AND ITS LEADER, VIKTOR ORBÁN.
