Forty-four representatives of the European Parliament wrote a letter to Viktor Orbán, reports Szabad Európa.
According to representatives of the four largest EU factions – the Christian Democratic European People's Party, the Social Democratic S&D, the liberal Renew Europe and the Greens – the Hungarian Prime Minister's personal political interests are more important than the lives of Ukrainians, and he has continuously slowed down the adoption of the sanctions package – thereby breaking the EU unity.
Although, according to the representatives, the democratic world is united in supporting Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, with the exception of Viktor Orbán and the Hungarian government. They pointed out that Orbán fought to the end in order to be exempted from the oil embargo, so
Hungary will continue to finance the war crimes of the Russian army".
According to the representatives, the European Union is a unity of peace and cooperation, which has emerged stronger from every crisis. According to them, the current war will further strengthen the EU, and the alliance supports Ukraine.
"We ask you to stand on the good side of history together with the Hungarian people, who clearly stand in solidarity with Ukraine. We ask you to act like a true European"
- the representatives wrote to Viktor Orbán, asking the prime minister of Hungary, who is "healing from the wounds caused by the Soviet dictatorship", to preserve European unity.
