Hungarians believe that the politicians involved in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict do not primarily seek to promote peace, Századvég concluded based on their June survey. The public opinion survey examined public opinions about the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Századvég 's survey points out that the opinion of politicians directly or indirectly involved in the armed conflict shows a worsening trend in Hungary, compared to the May data.
According to the research, the percentage of those who have an unfavorable opinion of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi increased from 65 to 68 percent from May to June.
Századvég points out that Zelenskyi and his staff have recently criticized Hungary on several occasions, which may have played a role in the Ukrainian president's loss of popularity.
Although the group of those who expressed a negative opinion of Vladimir Putin did not change during the examined period - 72-72 percent of the respondents belonged to this group in both May and June - however, the proportion of those who had a more favorable opinion of him decreased by one percentage point, and the proportion of those who were unsure increased by the same amount.
Századvég - for the first time in June - also examined the judgment of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. In light of this, it can be stated that almost half of Hungarians (49 percent) have an unfavorable attitude towards Von der Leyen, while the proportion of those who have a positive opinion of the politician is 33 percent.
According to Századvég, the unfavorable domestic perception of the chairman of the committee can be traced back, among other things, to the fact that, despite the tense situation caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war, he announced that Brussels would initiate the rule of law mechanism for Hungary to freeze certain EU funds.
Meanwhile, the proportion of those who have an unfavorable opinion of US President Joe Biden rose from 62 to 64 percent.
